Dr. Sean Barford

Director / Registered Psychologist

Hello! My name is Dr. Sean Barford and I am the owner and clinical director at Clarity Psychology Inc.

I am a Registered Psychologist in Alberta and specialise in psycho-educational, diagnostic, and psycho-vocational assessments. I work with most age-ranges and hold numerous third party contracts with a variety of providers. I absolutely love my job and am passionate about the field of psychology and, in particular, clinical assessment. If you have any questions or want to contact me directly, please feel free to email me at sean(at)claritypsychology.ca.

Education and Credentials:

  • Registered Psychologist (#3859) with the College of Alberta Psychologists
  • Bachelor of Arts Degree with High Distinction from Concordia University College - Edmonton, Alberta
  • Master of Education Degree in Counselling Psychology from the University of Alberta – Edmonton, Alberta
  • Doctor of Philosophy in Counselling Psychology (CPA Accredited) from the University of Alberta - Edmonton, Alberta

Background / Experience:

I have specialised in completing high quality assessments and mental health evaluations throughout my schooling and career as a Registered Psychologist. I personally have completed thousands of assessments and work with most age-ranges. I began my career working with children and I believe that educational assessments help to bring clarity to complicated learning and behavioural challenges, which is necessary for accurate planning and intervention.

I also work with adults and complete both assessments, as well as complex mental health evaluations,  mainly through my contracts with Community and Social Services (CSS), the Workers’ Compensation Board of Alberta (WCB), and through other third-party insurance providers. Although assessments have been my passion and main area of interest throughout my career, I have also worked as a counsellor, consulted with professional sports teams, and have completed research and published articles in academic journals.

Aside from my practical experience as a psychologist, I also enjoy teaching and mentoring students. I have served as an Adjunct Professor within the Educational Psychology Department at the University of Alberta. I take pride in the work we do as psychologists and have supervised many students in the practical component of the individual assessment courses at the U of A. I also taught a graduate level course in child and adolescent psychopathology at Concordia University of Edmonton.

About Me:

I have many passions and interests and feel incredibly privileged to have found a career that suits my personality. I love the balance between working with individuals, who I find endlessly interesting, and then retreating to my office to go through the data, make decisions, and put together reports.

On a more personal note, I have a young family and spend all my free time with them. I believe that having children has allowed me to become more understanding of the struggles and stresses that go along with agreeing to complete a psychoeducational assessment. My wife and I travelled extensively before we had children and have been to many parts of the world, including Thailand, Honduras, Guatemala, Kenya, South Africa, France, Italy and Spain. My favourite travel experience was spending time with the mountain gorillas in Rwanda. I also enjoy cooking, fitness, and Cuban cigars!
