Amber Nicholson

Registered Provisional Psychologist

Hello, my name is Amber Nicholson, and I am a Registered Provisional Psychologist working with individual adults in Alberta.

My work is currently being supervised by Adriana Henderson, MC, R.Psych. (AB #5128)

Approach to Counselling:

In our work together, my priority is to create a space where you feel heard, supported, and safe. I take a collaborative, trauma-informed approach, moving at a pace that feels comfortable for you. Together, we will explore your experiences, clarify your goals, and draw on methods tailored to your needs.

I work from several evidence-based approaches, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Solution-Focused Therapy, and mindful self-compassion. Together, we will select and adapt tools that best support your individual goals, ensuring therapy feels personalized and meaningful. I check in regularly on your progress and welcome your feedback to ensure our work continues to be helpful and aligned with your needs.

I have extensive experience supporting individuals through life, academic, and career transitions, and I deeply believe in each person’s capacity for resilience. My goal is to help you find ways forward that feel authentic and meaningful. I invite you to schedule a 15-minute consultation to see if I am the right fit for you. You can also reach me at amber@claritypsychology.ca with any questions about my approach, my work, or working with a provisional psychologist.

Education and Credentials:

Background / Experience:

Before becoming a Registered Provisional Psychologist, I spent over 20 years working in the postsecondary sector in student services, career advising, and coaching. During that time, I also volunteered for 10 years with the Canadian Mental Health Association’s Edmonton Distress Line. Through my Master of Counselling program, I completed a practicum at the University of Alberta’s on-campus counselling centre, where I worked with clients from diverse backgrounds, each facing unique challenges and life stressors. These experiences have deepened my commitment to providing compassionate, evidence-based support.

About Me:

I feel a strong connection to Edmonton and the broader Alberta community, having grown up, worked, and built my life here in the Prairies. I am married and part of a large blended family, which keeps life lively and full of learning. In my free time, I love walking or running through our beautiful river valley, spending time with family and friends, and exploring new places through travel. I’m excited to begin this next chapter as a Provisional Psychologist and to support clients at Clarity Psychology as they navigate their own journeys.
